Why Invest in Sosúa?

General

The Municipality of Sosúa, located on the north coast of the Dominican Republic, is a vibrant city offering a unique mix of natural beauty, excellent location, cultural value, and plenty of adventure. These features have made it an attractive destination for both investors and foreign tourists.

Sosúa owes its name to the Sosúa River that runs through the region. Among the highlights of this municipality are Puerto Chiquito, El Batey, Los Charamicos, Playa Chiquita, La Mulata, Sosúa Abajo, and El Choco, among others.

It is a special place to live, with a diverse community composed of residents from different nationalities such as Americans, Germans, French, Italians, Dutch, Canadians, Russians, and more recently, South Americans. Many have decided to invest in this area to rest during extended seasons, vacation with their families, and plan their retirements. In addition to being a safe area to enjoy tranquility, Sosúa is foreigner-friendly for investment and integration into the community thanks to its policies and affordable property prices. Currently, these residents have found their home in various residential communities in the area, designed according to their needs and located near the sea or in the mountains, with stunning views.

This small enclave of the Dominican Republic owes its growth to the former banana plantations of the United Fruit Company. The foundation of Sosúa is officially recognized with the arrival of 500 Jewish settlers welcomed by the government of dictator Rafael Leónidas Trujillo in 1938. The Jews introduced the dairy and meat industry, which remains an important economic driver in the city. Although the Jewish community has diminished over time, a museum dedicated to their heritage is preserved in Sosúa.

Sosúa is located just 23.8 km (22 minutes) from San Felipe in the province of Puerto Plata, 6.1 km from Puerto Plata International Airport, and 15 minutes from the city of Cabarete, the Caribbean kitesurfing capital, with a vibrant atmosphere full of beach bars and restaurants that compete with famous Caribbean islands. Cabarete also has kitesurfing, surfing, and windsurfing schools and annually hosts the Kiteboarding World Cup, the International Windsurfing Classic, and the Masters of the Ocean (Surf).

Due to the differences in lifestyle and the advantages offered by each city, both Sosúa and Cabarete are popular destinations for residents and visitors.
